A presentation on the CALIMERO project was made recently during the ECOSYSTEX Insights Series #9 by our technical coordinator, Eduardo Entrena. He gave details of the CALIMERO project and its preliminary results coming from Life Cycle Sustainability Assessment (LCSA) methodology, combined with Multi-Objective Optimization. The event presented an opportunity to delve into a wide spectrum of views of these findings.
The CALIMERO methodology was the subject of the presentation. More than 80 participants from academia and industry came to learn about an innovative approach that goes beyond the PEF standard. The EU proposed the Product Environmental Footprint (PEF) standard as an answer to sustainability assessment, but CALIMERO seeks to take a broader view.
Eduardo highlighted the progress of the project, especially by giving some examples from the wood industry. He showed that the application of the CALIMERO strategy can lead to high levels of sustainability improvement within a particular case study – an indication of the potential that this project holds, in which it can significantly change the current standards practiced in sustainability in other sectors, such as textiles.
At the meeting, in addition to the CALIMERO project, other research and development projects were showcased — with a common theme of sustainability in the textile industry. This exchange of information gave the members of the CALIMERO consortium new perspectives on sustainable initiatives, including but not limited to what they had already brought into consideration; this will help us further develop our commitment towards promoting these practices within the industry.
An innovative approach, the ECOSYSTEX Insights Series is of much significance in creating a knowledge-sharing and collaboration platform among sustainability experts who share a common dedication. Pleased with CALIMERO consortium’s participation in this discussion and leading towards innovation in providing sustainable future solutions through textiles.
